The Winter Share for 2012-2013 is full. If you would be interested in a Winter Share Membership for 2013-2014, and would like an email reminder that signup season has begun, please email us and specify you are interested in the Winter Share.
The inaugural Winter Veggie Share of 2011/2012 met with great success, so we'll be doing it again this winter. Although the winter share will necessarily consist of a more limited variety of vegetables, and pickups will be every other week rather than weekly, we're sure you'll enjoy continuing to eat truly fresh and local vegetables all year long!
The Winter Veggie Share runs from November through May, with pickups every other week here at the farm. It will include many favorites such as lettuce, potatoes, and carrots, as well as lots of good-for-you AND tasty greens such as spinach, arugula, kale, and Swiss chard. The slideshow to the right shows a few of the items which we have grown in the greenhouse over the past couple of winters.
1. When will the share run? The Winter Veggie Share will run every other Thursday, starting on November 15th, and finishing on May 30th, for a total of 15 pickups.
2. What happens if there is snow or other bad weather?
Our crops should be ok, as for the most part they'll either be 'storage crops' like potatoes and will be snugly indoors or they will be crops growing in the greenhouse where snow and ice can't get to them! The trickiest issue will be if there are snowstorms just prior to or actually on pickup day. In this case, we'll make other arrangements - a 'snow day' if you will - and will coordinate an alternative pickup day/time with all members if we need to. It will be important for you to check your email inboxes if bad weather is threatening, in order to get the latest updates.3. Where is the pickup location?: Cochranville on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 PM. Located at our farm located near the intersection of Rte. 10 and Rte. 41 in Highland Township, Chester County.
4. What is the size of the share? The Winter Veggie Share will suit a couple, a small family, or a single who really likes his/her veggies!
5. What will be in a share? What is in a share will vary over the winter. The earlier months will include 'storage crops' like potatoes and winter squash, and will contain greater quantities and varieties of vegetables. Deep winter months will consist primarily of cold-tolerant greens. See the chart below for a list of what we plan to have available between November and May.
